Why a 4th axis on a composite machine?

Tubes, spars and booms

Drone arms, pultruded tube and wound spar sections get machined on all sides in one setup instead of three fixtures and three chances to lose datum.

Dust stays contained

Carbon dust is conductive and abrasive. The rotary axis runs inside the same sealed dust management as the rest of the machine — not bolted on afterwards.

The frame does the work

Composite laminate chatters badly on a resonant frame. Roughly 50% of spindle vibration is absorbed between the spindle and the base plate, measured.
